Embracing the (Neck) Bias and Getting Dressy

Hello! This week went by fast and I got a good amount of machine sewing done.

I re-did the All Well Box Top, which came out actually wearable for public viewing.

I cut a lot of bias tape out, in muslin and black cotton. I found the grainline, crossline, and bias and got to cutting. I may have made too many?

I figured out ruffles, thanks to my artist friend who advised me to play with the tension after I failed for a few hours – the threads were breaking when I began gathering.

After seeing the All Well Ruffle Box Top on me, I was not pleased with the fit; I need a smaller size and to length adjustment. I quickly got bored and decided to put a pin in this project and move on to the next.

Which was the All Well Box dress! I sped through this yet took my time – the steps and processes are becoming more familiar. I can follow steps by looking at the image and not reading the instructions.

The box dress has a little belt that cinches the waist. I almost added a split hem, but I thought it would be to risk-ay for a knee-length dress. I thought about adding a patch pocket but decided not to ruin the dress with a new technique. That’s a job for a muslin!

It is not perfect – the neck bias is unraveling and there are threads hanging everywhere. But again, it is wearable! I will debut it this weekend.

Happy sewing!
